Meet Naiya

Where are you from?

Monroe, CT

How did you first hear about Notre Dame?

I wanted to go to my dad’s high school. I made that decision when I was in 5th grade.

What made you want to come to Notre Dame?

I just wanted to carry on my family’s legacy here. I was meant to be the next generation to become a Lancer.

What activities are you involved in?

I’m in the band, Culture Club, and I play lacrosse, volleyball, and basketball. I’m also a Lancer Ambassador, Link Crew leader, and I’m in the French club.

What is your favorite class?

Intro to Graphic Design is my favorite. It’s something new and not a lot of schools give you the opportunity to learn about design and coding. I didn’t know how to use a Mac before this class. Now I know my way around it. I can make things in it, which will be useful in my career.

What has been your most memorable experience at Notre Dame?

I love participating in the arts and playing a part in showing what the band, chorus, and dance programs are working on. Notre Dame has also helped my stage fright and built my confidence. It’s a smaller school so it’s been easier to push myself.

What do you love most about Notre Dame?

I like the people and the classes.

What has been your favorite service project?

I have two. For my French project, I made a children’s book about imaginary friends, and in my English class we’re working on a dosomething.org website. For this project, I’m drawing a princess that I would like to see portrayed by Disney. We get to draw girls that aren’t shown or represented, and maybe it’ll get the company’s attention someday.
