Constitution Day Hackathon

Constitution Day Hackathon
Posted on 10/01/2025

Thanks to our partnership with Sacred Heart University, Notre Dame Prep students participated in a high school version of the annual Constitution Day Hackathon at Sacred Heart University on Wednesday, September 24th. The event was organized by the SHU Political Science Department and was moderated by Political Science & Global Affairs Professor Marylena Mantas-Kourounis. NDP students were joined by students from Trumbull High School.

As part of the process of the Hackathon, Mr. Anthony Guerrera’s AP Government and Politics class wrote essays on one thing they would change in the U.S. Constitution. Their essays were submitted anonymously and reviewed by a committee of SHU Political Science professors. The committee chose Lydia Badaracco ’26 and Justin Ramos ’26 as the two finalists to present and defend their hacks against two students from Trumbull High. Unfortunately, neither of them received top prize. However, both demonstrated knowledge of their topic and strong public speaking skills on stage.

“Overall the day was a great experience for the students,” Mr. Guerrera commented. “The event gave the entire class the opportunity to think critically about the structure of our government via one of our founding documents and its overall impact on the people of the United States.” Congratulations to Lydia and Justin on their hard work and achievements!
