Classes Offered
Computer Technology
- Grade 10- This sophomore course offering is based around the use of Microsoft software. Other software is incorporated into the curriculum, but a majority of the year focuses on Microsoft Office.

Microsoft Excel- Excel is an extremely useful spreadsheet program. The spreadsheet (which was invented by Dan Bricklin in the late 1970's under the name of VisiCalc) is perhaps one of the most used applications in the business world. We utilize Excel in class to figure interest rates on purchases as well as interest rate returns on savings. Excel can also forecast values for the student. For example, if I put 10 dollars a week into the bank at 1.5% interest, how much money would I have in 15 years? How much interest would I have earned?
Conversely, if I buy a $20,000 automobile and finance $16,000 at 7% interest for 5 years, how much will the car cost me in the end? How much will my monthly payments be?
This unit in Excel is perfect for young adults who are about to enter the 'real' world of finances and financial responsibility.

Microsoft Powerpoint- Powerpoint is quickly becoming the premier presentation program in the business world. It enables the user to create a slideshow or presentation that is not only informational, but also entertaining. One feature powerpoint project we do in class is a 20 slide multimedia presentation on various historical figures. The students pick a name out of a hat (some names to choose range from Charlie Chaplin, John F. Kennedy, Princess Diana, Harry Houdini to Walt Disney, Martin Luther King Jr. and Theodore Geisel). The student then puts together a 20 slide biographical presentation which includes video files, audio clips, and other multimedia. At the end, the project is presented to the entire class using our digital projector and screen.

Microsoft Publisher- Publisher is a graphic layout program which is becoming more and more useful with each version. Students will design tri-fold brochures, posters, and layout newspapers utilizing this program. The newpaper project is a collaborative effort in which your team will choose a decade or period of time, and layout a 10-12 page newspaper based in that time period. There are approximately 5 students per group and each student is assigned a job within the group (editor, copy editor, graphic layout, etc).

Desktop Publishing/Web Design- Grades 11 and 12 (elective)- This is a full year course that thoroughly explores the world of graphic design and the applications that make it all happen. Web page design, Flash animation, and Photoshop are just a few of the programs that will be taught during this course.
