ND TRACK & FIELD
Dan Knapp, Head Coach, Girls
The N.D. track and field program continued to march forward in 2007 with increased participation and continued success. Several athletes on both sides of the program found success in weekly competitions and ultimately qualified for the SWC championship meet. On the girls' side, the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Lindy Mair, Kassandra Cora, Ana Hanbury and Nancy Louigene finished ninth at the SWC championship meet. Also qualifying for SWCs was the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Hanbury, Irene Boyle, Courtney Suech and Courtney Rechtiene. Junior Candace Williams (All SWC), though, continued to pace the Lancers. Candace won the shot put title at the SWC championship with a throw of 40 feet, 5 inches -- over eight feet further than her closest competition. At the Class S championship meet at Willow Brook Park, Candace won the shot put for the third straight year with a throw of 41 feet. She also won the discus for the first time with a throw of 104 1/2 feet. Candace then went on to win her first State Open shot put title with a throw of 41 feet, 5.5 inches. Qualifying for the New England Interscholastic Track and Field Meet, Candace finished second in the shot put behind an athlete from Maine. Overall, a tremendously successful season for Candace.
