The National Honor Society, a nationwide affiliation of secondary school honor students, is an organization of students chosen by a majority vote of the five-member faculty selection committee on the basis of scholarship, leadership, service and character.
To be eligible for membership the candidate must be a member of the junior or senior class. Candidates must have been in attendance at the school the equivalent of one semester. They must have a cumulative scholastic average of at least 88 in an academic program for each semester which the student has been at Notre Dame. Students' academic records are reviewed to determine scholastic eligibility. Students who are eligible scholastically are notified and must complete the Student Activity Information Form for further consideration for selection. The faculty council then reviews the Student Activity Information Form and any other verifiable information about each candidate. Candidates may be interviewed personally by the faculty council. Candidates receiving a majority vote of the faculty council are inducted into the chapter. Once received into the National Honor Society, an academic average of 80 is required.
